A Day in The Life of an Interior Designer - Is it Glamorous?
It’s funny, whenever I tell someone I’m an interior designer, their eyes glaze over, and they get this heavenly look on their face and say something to the effect of, “wow, that must be such a great job, and so much fun.”
When I started interior design school, I thought the exact same thing. But it’s not all reveals like you see on the design shows. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes.
Today for instance, I spent my day doing the following:
Bookkeeping - Getting a new client set up in the accounting system I have. Sending an invoice for my PrePaid Service - Designer On Call. Oh my gosh, then I spent about 2 hours through out the day on the phone and remotely logged in with my bookkeeper because this new online version of the software doesn’t work like the desk top version. I didn’t take a picture of me screaming.
Emailing the new client with the beginning instructions of how we are going to work together and what they need to do before our next in person visit.
Emailing an existing client that we are in the middle of getting quotes for a kitchen project and getting her schedule so I can coordinate an appointment at the kitchen and bath store for us.
Setting up a new online folder system for another new client, and downloading before pictures from our recent in visit.
Check all my affiliate link companies to make sure they are active.
Checking my email list provider to make sure that’s working correctly and check on the new subscribers.
I had to run a couple of errands which took about an hour.
Now it’s 5 pm and I’ll finish up the evening by putting in some basic dimensions of a bathroom layout I want to start to work on.
Maybe not, but I love the ending when the client gets a beautiful bathroom, a beautiful, kitchen, whatever beautiful room their heart desires.
A big part of my is making sure the process runs as smoothly as possible, and is as seamless to the client as possible.
It might not be glamorous, but I love it. And…I’m good at it. (humble brag)
If you are need of any design help, whether it’s an area rug, furniture selection, or just a consultation, I would to hear from you!
